About

Based in Birkenhead on the Wirral, this martial arts club focuses on judo and welcomes anyone aged 5 and over. It began in 2000 with 14 beginners training one night a week on a small temporary mat, and with support from parents, volunteers and keen young members it has since grown to more than 150 members. The club also works to develop athletes who want to compete at a high level.

Judo is a grappling martial art built around throws, holds and controlled groundwork. Training generally helps with fitness, balance, coordination and self-confidence, and clubs usually grade members through a belt system so progress is easy to follow, whether you are a child starting out or an adult returning to the mat.
