About

Based at the Town Hall in Glynneath, near Neath, this martial arts club teaches Wado-Ryu karate and has been running since 1971. Training takes place twice a week, with separate groups for juniors, adult beginners and higher grades, plus a fitness and self-defence class for those who would rather not take gradings. Women's self-defence and fitness courses can also be arranged on Sundays. The club belongs to the Welsh Karate Association.

Wado-Ryu is one of the main Japanese karate styles, known for its emphasis on evasion, body movement and timing alongside traditional kata and partner work. A typical karate class generally mixes basics, forms and controlled sparring, and offers a structured way to build fitness, coordination and confidence.
