About

Shotokan karate in Hitchin is on offer through Active Hertfordshire Karate, a group of martial arts clubs that has been running across the county for more than 40 years. Alongside Hitchin, the organisation has clubs in towns including Stevenage, Letchworth, Harpenden and Watford, with classes aimed at kids, teens, adults and whole families. Students range in age from 5 to 65, and newcomers can try a free lesson.

Karate is a traditional striking art that generally combines basic techniques, set forms (kata) and partner work. Regular training tends to build fitness, coordination and focus, and graded belt systems give students clear goals to work towards at their own pace.
