About

Kendo, the Japanese art of the sword, has a long-standing home in Liverpool thanks to this club, which has been practising for more than 30 years. It is currently the only kendojo on Merseyside registered with the British Kendo Association, and training takes place at Merchant Taylors School in Crosby. The club describes itself as a family dojo and welcomes people of all backgrounds.

Kendo is generally practised with bamboo swords (shinai) and protective armour (bogu), combining sparring matches with set forms known as kata. Beyond the physical side, newcomers to a kendo dojo can usually expect a strong emphasis on etiquette, respect and steady personal development, making it a rewarding discipline for those who enjoy structured, traditional training.
