About

For anyone in Inverness looking to take up aikido, Highland Ki Society offers training in Ki Aikido, also known as Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido, the style of aikido with mind and body unified developed by Koichi Tohei Sensei. The society runs two clubs in the Highlands and is affiliated with the Ki No Kenkyukai Musubi and the British Aikido Board, the UK governing body for aikido.

Sessions generally open with exercises for health, including breathing, flexing and stretching, alongside movements that develop the coordination central to aikido. Aikido is often described as the way of harmony, and practice tends to focus on blending with an opponent's movement rather than meeting force with force.
